Ryan tours Covenant House

"E' cresciuto a Vancouver quindi è al corrente della situazione dei senza tetto qui", dice Michelle Clausius della Covenant House. "Era molto interessato a vedere il nostro ricovero e le ragioni per cui persone giovani finiscono qui."

La cosa più significativa da dire riguardo alla visita di Reynolds è quanto la visita sia stata informale.
Avrebbe potuto trasformare la visita in un evento pubblicitario ma Clausius ha detto che è venuto di sua iniziativa con "genuina compassione" per i giovani senza tetto.

"Ha chiamato la scorsa settimana e ha chiesto se poteva venire", continua. "Era solito passare spesso qui davanti e voleva sapere di più su di noi. Avere qualcuno così famoso entrare e mostrare interesse è fantastico."

Ovviamente la presenza di una celebrità ha creato agitazione.

"E' un bell'uomo", ammette Clausius, senza troppa esitazione. "Ma è una di quelle persone che incontri e sai che sono cordiali e generose."

Quando le viene chiesto se Reynolds continuerà il suo rapporto con l'organizzazione, Clausius è rimasta vaga.

"Ci terremo in contatto", ha detto.

Ryan visited Covenant House for a tour of their Drake Street shelter yesterday! “Covenant House Vancouver exists for those young people for whom there is often no one else — young people aged 16 - 24 who have either willingly fled physical, emotional and/or sexual abuse or those who have been forced from their homes.”

“He grew up in Vancouver so he’s familiar with the homeless situation here,” said Covenant House’s Michelle Clausius. “He was very interested to see our shelter and the reasons why young people end up here.”

The most telling thing about Reynolds’ visit is how low-key the entire affair was.

He could have turned the tour into a publicity stunt but Clausius said he came in on his own accord with a “genuine compassion” for homeless youth.

“He called last week and asked if he could come in,” she said. “He used to walk by all the time and wanted to learn more about us. To have someone that famous come in and take an interest is fantastic.”

And it goes without saying the celebrity’s presence caused a stir.

“He’s a handsome man,” Clausius admitted, without much hesitation. “But he’s just one of those people that you meet and know they’re a warm, caring person.”

Asked if Reynolds plans to continue his relationship with the organization, Clausius played it cool.

“We’re going to keep in touch,” she said.
